Patient Counselling
Application (Anusol PLUS Ointment)
1. Cleanse area, using warm water and cotton. Pat dry.
2. For longest-lasting relief, smooth ointment gently over affected external area.
3. To treat internal hemorrhoids, remove cap from the tube and lubricate applicator with a small amount of ointment. Attach the applicator to tube, insert into rectum and squeeze gently to release medication.
4. Wash applicator with soap and hot water after use.
5. Repeat every 4 hours, or as needed, and after every bowl movement.
Application (Anusol PLUS Suppositories)
Cleanse area, using warm water and cotton. Pat Dry.
Adverse events are rare, but with excessive application to the rectal mucosa, systemic absorption can occur. Local itching or burning may occur but should resolve in a few minutes. If they do not resolve or are significant contact your pharmacist or physician.
Contact your physician if any of the following are experienced: restlessness, excitement, nervousness, paresthesias, dizziness, tinnitus, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, muscle twitching, tremors, convulsions, hypotension, bradycardia
Keep medications out of reach of children.
Store medication between 15-30oC.
Contact physician or pharmacist if there is no relief within 7 days, or if symptoms worsen, or if bleeding or hemorrhoid protrusion occurs.

- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
- If the suppository is soft, hold it under cool water or place it in a refrigerator for a few minutes to harden it before removing the wrapper.
- Remove the wrapper.
- Lubricate the suppository tip with a water-soluble lubricant such as K-Y jelly, not petroleum jelly (Vaseline). If no lubricant available, moisten rectal area with cool tap water.
- Lie on your side with your lower leg straightened out and your upper leg bent forward toward your stomach.
- Lift upper buttock to expose the rectal area.
- Insert the suppository with your finger about 1 inch, with the pointed end first.
- Hold the buttocks together for a few seconds.
- Remain lying down for about 5 minutes to avoid having the suppository coming out.
- Discard used material and wash your hands thoroughly.
- Use one suppository in the morning, at bedtime, and after each bowel movement.
