Using Lacrisert (hydroxypropyl cellulose) Opthalmic Inserts
Step 1:
Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water.
Step 2;
Place the Lacrisert ® blister pack on a smooth, flat surface and slowly peel back the label.
Step 3:
Open the applicator package (with label side up). Pick up the tip via the wide end and ensure to avoid touching the grooved tip. Rinse the applicator tip thoroughly under hot running water for a few seconds and gently shake off any excess water.
Step 4:
With the applicator pointed down, gently press the grooved tip of the applicator onto the Lacrisert® ophthalmic eye insert opened in Step 1. The insert should easily adhere to the applicator tip.
Step 5:
Stand in front of a mirror and start with the right eye. Look so that the cornea (colored part of the eye) is facing the nose. Using your thumb and the index finger, gently pull on the skin below the lower eyelid creating a pocket between the eyelid and eyeball.
Step 6:
Using the applicator, place the tip containing the insert into the pocket. Avoid touching the colored portion of eye with the applicator.
Step 7:
Remove the applicator from the pocket. Before letting go of the lower eyelid, look down and then let go of the eyelid.
If needed, repeat the procedure for the left eye.
