LYSINE
Patient Counselling
Combination topical products should be applied every two hours to the area affected(1). Take care to wash hands thoroughly before and after touching the lesion to prevent spreading of infection.
Adults can take oral lysine in doses of 1,000 – 3,000 mg per day. Do not exceed 3,000 mg per day for greater than six months, as toxicity has not been studied(1).
Do not take lysine if you have liver or kidney disease(2).
Talk to your doctor before taking lysine if you are using antibiotics, such as gentamicin, neomycin, tobramycin, or streptomycin. Contact your doctor right away if you have trouble urinating, if you have blood in urine, or pain in lower back(1).
