Based on the reviewed studies, patients with serious diarrhea (such as those requiring IV fluid infusion, dehydrated, on drugs that may be affected by attapulgite, pregnant women, etc.), were excluded from the studies. Therefore, attapulgite may not be the best option to recommend to these populations (1,2). It is recommended for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate acute diarrhea and cramps (3,4).
