Cantharidin can be purchased from your community pharmacy, but it must be applied by a doctor. Your doctor paints the cantharidin to the surface of your wart and a small area surrounding it. Your doctor will cover your wart with a bandage, which must remain on for 24 hours or as long as your physician instructs.
In one to 3 days a blister will form. You may experience some pain from the blister. The blister may take approximately 1 to 2 weeks to heal. If your wart is not removed from the first treatment you may need to see your doctor to have the cantharidin reapplied.
Cantharidin is painless to apply. Side effects are generally experienced one day after treatment and include:
· Redness at the site of application
· Mild pain
· Itchiness
