Nicotine patches come in different dosage strengths. Heavy smokers and light smokers may use different doses.
The 21 mg patch is usually recommended for people who smoke a pack of 20 cigarettes or more daily. The 14 mg patch can be used for people who smoke 10 to 20 cigarettes daily. The 7 mg patch is used for people who smoke less than 10 cigarettes daily. From there, following package instructions, the user 'steps down' to lower dose patches until the final step down to no patch.

· blurred vision, hearing problems, weakness or fainting while using the patch.
· your skin stays very red for 4 days, or if it gets swollen or sore.
Contraindications1 6
Do not use nicotine patch if you:
· are still smoking
· have severe renal impairment
· experienced a recent myocardial infarction or cerebral vascular accident
· have severe angina, life-threatening arrhythmia
· are breastfeeding

- Put one patch on a clean, dry and non-hairy area of skin on your upper body, such as your stomach, upper arm or side. Do not put the patch on burned, cut or sore skin.
- Place the sticky side on your skin and press it firmly for 10 seconds. Make sure the patch is flat and smooth against your skin.
- Wash your hands after putting on the patch.
- Keep the patch on for the amount of time shown on the package (16 or 24 hours).
- Dispose the patch by folding it in half with the sticky sides together
- Put the next patch on a different area of skin. Use a different area each day. You can use a previously used area again after waiting 1 week.
