NRT Lozenges
Patient counselling

Could be used as mono-therapy or as-needed
therapy with a long lasting therapy (ie. Patch, bupropion)
· Start off with 2mg if you need your first cigarette >30 mins after you wake up
· Start off with 4 mg if you need first first cigarette <30 mins after you wake up
· To use, the lozenge should be dissolved slowly in the mouth while moving from one side of the mouth to the other
· Do not bite, chew or swallow
· From week 1 -6 à use one lozenge every 1-2 hours when needed (MAX 15/day)
· From weeks 7-9 à use one lozenge every 2-4 hours when needed
· From weeks 10-12 à use one lozenge every 4-8 hours when needed
· *doses for nicotine polacrilex lozenge (Nicorrete)
· Possible side effects may include stomach upset, jaw pain, fast heart beat
· Avoid using any acidic beverages and foods during and 15 mins before chewing the lozenge; these include coffee, fruit juices alcohol etc…
