Dicyclomine Hydrochloride
Patient Counselling
- Dicyclomine should not be given to children under 6 months of age for the treatment of colic
- Warn parents of serious respiratory complications that may occur in infants given dicyclomine
- If parents insist on giving dicyclomine, instruct them to give 5mg TID-QID 15 minutes before feeding
- Instruct parents to watch for signs of respiratory depression, shortness of breath, breathlessness, or apnea and seek medical attention if these symptoms arise
- Educate parents on the signs of a severe reaction: wheezing, fever, itching, cyanosis, and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Seek medical attention immediately.
