- Lactobacillus reuteri should be given as a dose of 10^ 8 CFU (colony forming units)
- The bacterial strain Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 has been studied and shown to be safe for infants with colic
- Choose the product available as drops if possible for ease of administration to your infant
- Separate administration of probiotics from any antibiotic by at least 2 hours.
- Probiotics are generally regarded as safe but possible side effects can include gas, bloating, possibly diarrhea – all of these are mild and may subside over time
- Consult with your doctor or pharmacist before using if your infant has a compromised immune system (i.e. has received a transplant or is using medor is preterm)
