Hydrogen peroxide

Evidence for the use of hydrogen peroxide as mono-therapy in preventing gingivitis is limited. One study finds that hydrogen peroxide mouthwash 3 times a day, as mono-therapy was effective in slowing gingivitis development. The evidence of the current trials shows better effect as combination therapy however these trials were short-term studies. One study did show long-term efficacy for H2O2 as adjunctive therapy. The use of hydrogen peroxide as mono-therapy for gingivitis is not recommended, as long-term studies have not been performed. It may be recommended as adjunctive therapy however the evidence behind it is limited and inconsistent.
