calcium
Patient Counselling
Some patient counseling points include: Separating the administration of other minerals, bone pills, and thyroid pills by 2 hours before and after. Calcium should be taken with food, and taken divided up in a day to help it become absorbed better (do not take more than 500mg of elemental calcium in one sitting). The dose recommended of calcium carbonate (based on the above studies) should be between 1000mg to 1200mg daily taken twice a day with meals. Some people might get an upset stomach, nausea, headache or constipation.1,2
