VITAMIN c
Patient Counselling
Vitamin C is an antioxidant agent that helps get rid of toxic reactive oxygen species
Patients are able to get recommended daily allowance of vitamin C by eating a variety of foods, such as citrus fruits (eg. Oranges and grapefruits), kiwis, strawberries, tomatoes as well as vegetables (red and green peppers, broccoli)
Vitamin C is usually well tolerated but excessive amount should be avoided, especially patients with diabetes should not take vitamin C in excessive amounts over a long period of time (4). Also, avoid high dose of vitamin C in patients
with iron storage disease, history of kidney stones and renal disease
