- All Kaopectate (attapulgite) products are available as suspensions only. These suspensions should not be frozen.
- Shake the suspension well before ingesting.
- Do not take Kaopectate suspension within 2 or 3 hours of other medications as this may decrease their absorption.
- Do not use the Kaopectate for more than 2 days. Seek medical attention after this time period.
- Talk to a healthcare provider before using the product if the patient has a fever or blood in the stool.
- Available products are all gluten free, lactose free and tartrazine free.
- Patients should be cautious of signs of a severe allergic reaction such as wheezing, itching, coughing, or swelling of lips, face, throat or tongue and should seek immediate medical attention should any of these signs occur.
- One dose should be given after each bowel movement up to the recommended daily maximum.
- Kaopectate suspension are not for use in children < 3 years old.
- Adult dosing: 1200-1500mg/dose (MAX dose: 8400mg/day)
- 3-6 years old children: 300mg/dose (MAX dose: 2100mg/day)
- 6-12 years old children: 600-750mg/dose (MAX dose: 4500mg/day)
