When is it not safe to use this medication?
• If you have an allergy to diphenhydramine or any other part of this medication.
• Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any medications. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. For example: rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.
• If you have asthma.
• If you are breast-feeding.
What is this medication used for?
• It is used to treat sleep problems.
How to take this medication?
• If you are taking this medication for a sleep problems, take it 1 hour before going to bed.
• Do not use with other products that have diphenhydramine.
• You may not be alert. Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions until you see how this medication affects you.
• Avoid beer, wine, mixed drinks, or other medications and natural products that slow your actions.
What are some side effects of this medication?
• Feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred eyesight, or a change in thinking clearly. Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert or have clear eyesight until you see how this medication affects you.
• Hard stools (constipation). Drinking more liquids, working out, or adding fiber to your diet may help. Talk with your doctor about a stool softener or laxative.
• Dry mouth. Good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. See a dentist often.
When do I need to call my doctor?
• If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away.
• Signs of a very bad reaction to the medication. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat.
• Not able to pass urine.
• Feeling very tired or weak.
• Any rash.
• Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
How do I store and/or throw out this medication?
• Store at room temperature.
• Protect capsules and tablets from water. Do not store in a bathroom or kitchen.
• Talk with the doctor before starting any new medication, including OTC, natural products, or vitamins.
