Patient Counselling
Intended benefit/use: Sympto-thermal and fertility monitor can be used alone for contraceptive purposes. Withdrawal method can be used alone or in combination with other contraceptive options. All of them do not offer any protection against sexually transmitted diseases.
Product use:
Saliva-based fertility monitor (Ovu-Trac)
If day 1 is assumed to be the start of her period, woman will start testing on day 10 or 11 of and wait for surge.
Urine-based fertility monitor (Clearplan)
The patient should start testing on day 1 of her cycle and continue to use throughout her cycle
Skin-based fertility monitor (OV-Watch Fertility Predictor)
Wristband should be worn at the beginning of the patient’s cycle (days 1-3) and should be worn through ovulation.
Side Effects: No specific side effects are related to natural contraceptive options.
Contraindications: Irregular menstrual cycle for symptothermal and fertility monitor methods; sexually transmitted diseases; premature ejaculation for coitus interruptus.
