anhydrous crystalline maltose
PRODUCT EXAMPLES
- The supplier of ACM for the primary literature trials appraised (Hayashibara Biochemical Laboratories (HBL), Okayama, Japan) still produces the compound as per the company’s website and email communications with the company July 7, 2013. They have an office located in the USA and the lozenges could possibly be compounded in the USA.
- Lozenges are stated to be available for compounding in Canada according to Patient Self-Care 2nd edition, however, ACM cannot be sourced from the compounding pharmacy supplier (as per telephone conversation with RPh, Beechwood Pharmacy Waterloo, June 20, 2013) and is not carried by PCCA Canada (as per telephone conversation with the company June 20, 2013). It appears this product is not readily available in Canada. Anhydrous crystalline maltose is not listed on the Licensed Natural Health Products Database of the Health Canada website.2
- Natrol Dry Mouth Relief™ (containing 200mg ACM) has been discontinued by the manufacturer 4-5 years ago as per live chat with Natrol support operator (June 20, 2013).
- ACM lozenges were also sold previously under the brand name Maxisal™ in Amarillo, Texas, USA, and South Africa, however these are no longer available (as per email communication with the manufacturer June 26, 2013).
