Although the evidence supporting the use of sage for the treatment and symptomatic relief of acute sore throat is largely limited, that which does exist is promising <1,2,3>. However, since evidence is limited and that more efficacious therapy options are available, sage should be reserved for use after analgesics or topical sodium channel blockers such as benzocaine. It may also be an option in individuals looking for a herbal product for the treatment and symptomatic relief of acute sore throat although evidence is only preliminary.
