- Sucrose should be administered as per hospital or doctors’ direction; otherwise it can be given when infants are in distress and crying
- There are two ways of administration:
dipping a pacifier into a small cup of sucrose solution or drawing up in an oral syringe
- in Canada, general protocol is 0.5mL while in some other literatures it is 1-2 mL
- TootSweet is available in Canada and comes in a cup and twist-tips vials
- The single dose cups are intended for one time use and should be discarded
